The brief

The owners had lived with a ceiling of ninety downlights in their previous home and asked, in the first meeting, for the opposite of it. The villa needed to feel calm on an ordinary evening and still handle large family gatherings twice a month.

Our approach

We reduced the recessed count by more than half and reinvested the budget in cove lighting, wall washing and decorative pieces over the dining and stair voids. Every circuit dims to 0.1% on warm-dim sources, so the whole ground floor can sit at candlelight level. Control is four labelled keypad scenes per zone, with the app kept as a secondary route.

The outcome

The living floor runs at under ten per cent for most of the evening. Connected load dropped by 38% against the original consultant layout while the perceived quality of the space rose sharply.
