Lighting a protected coral-stone building with almost nowhere to fix anything.

The brief
Conservation rules permitted very few new fixings, and none visible in the daytime elevation.
Our approach
Almost all lighting works from ground level and from existing openings, using narrow beams across the coral stone to bring out its texture. Where fixings were unavoidable, they use existing mortar joints and are reversible without damage.
The outcome
Approved by the conservation authority at first submission — rare for a lighting scheme on a protected elevation.
